buena onda

Buena onda is Chilean for "good vibes," and literally translates to "good wave."

Before video became my mistress, there was photography.
They say you never forget your first, and I certainly haven't.

Video

Humble Beginnings

I created this video in 2012 for Amphibious Achievement, as part of their sponsorship banquet.
My sister was a co-founder of Amphibious Achievement and asked me to do photography for the group, but we decided video would be more effective on sponsors. I had never used Final Cut Pro or Motion before, so I learned the software as I created this video. Eventually, the video was picked up by US Rowing and allegedly shown to Michelle Obama.
This was my first foray into motion graphics. Though it's not the cleanest video audio-wise, I remember this project fondly. I didn't have the ability to create 3D sequences, and I was able to hack it using screencasting software and Google Earth. Some call it scrappy, I call it resourceful.

The Bet

My best friend, Madeline, knows all about my love of video production. In college, we entered a wager of sorts, where my loss would require creating a weekly vlog about different topics. I wasn't allowed to talk about any fun parties or anything too personal, and it had to be realistic enough that viewers would think I was semi-serious. Thus, The Weekend Wrap-Up with Bella Caballero was born. Though it was mostly a joke, I tried to take it sort of seriously, made sure to use PiP and other interesting editing tips to make it semi-decent. It's been five years since, and I'm still trying to forget.

Frankenstein

Let's fast-foward a bit. I'm now a Multimedia Marketer at Placester, a start-up in Boston. My days are spent growth hacking, directing social media, and creating videos as needed. We run our team with Agile methodology, so projects get organized into "sprints." During our last sprint, I was tasked with creating a 60-second explainer video for the entire company—I had a week to create a video that would live on our homepage and tell our story. Yikes.
I wrote a script and then stitched together scenes from previous videos we had created as a company. Things turned out surprisingly well. It has an 98% engagement rate over 2.2k views. Not bad, Bella, not bad.
